Bruna Martins

Dancer/Performer/Choreographer

Bruna Martins, 1994. Graduated in contemporary dance by Balleteatro Professional School. Self-taught artist, embraces unconventional studies in the fields of physical theatre and world dances, using them as work tools for her creations.

Her professional career starts in 2003 as a dancer in medieval and themed fairs. Between 2009 – 2012, while her studies in contemporary dance are still going on, she begins the creation of her first performances “Ubuntu”, “Sem Sentido” and “Imagens daquilo que foram o que sou”; she also initiates her participation and co-creation, as a performer, in projects like “Cres que te queria matar?” by Olga Mesa, “Síncope” by Márcio Ferreira, “Procissão K2” by Isabel Barros, as well as Peter Pick and Richard Miles’s concert, at Festival do Castanho, Montalegre, Portugal. During said time, she is invited to choreograph “Shining”, a music video by the band ”The SLR”, and to participate as a performer in audiovisual projects, such as the dance video “PIB-O Contacto” and “Sentidos”, by Thais Guimarães; “Fruit Love Fruit” and “Detonação” by Mara Índio; “Pale Porcelain” by André Mendes; “Body in Motion” by Zing Media.

In 2013, upon concluding her education, she stars in Marina Nabais’s creation “Peso de uma Semente”, in Guidance festival; in the same year, she highlights the works “Bodies in Urban Spaces” with Willie Dorner’s company; “Família Brochado”, a musical comedy by Cristina Briona and Maria Trabulo’s performance “Tentando Manter a Pose”. She also premiers as an actress in “A Casa Ocupada” and “Marília”, short-films by Guilherme Henriques, and works as a ballerina in a music video by Mara Índio, entitled “Like the Rain”.

Since 2014 she has worked with several artistic companies, such as Limiar Teatro (ES), Cia. De Dança do Norte (PT), Plasticiens Volants (FR), Grotest Maru (DE) and Cia. Fumisterie (FR/BE). Also in 2014, she began her international career with the co-creation of such performances as “Ta Panta Rei” with Janice Zadrozynski, “Peste” with Rui Paixão, “If it was my Street” with Paulina Almeida and Dawid Zakowski, but also in Portugal with the creation and co-creation of “Playground”, “AQVA”, “Magical Return”, “Liquid Fire” for Agitágueda festival, Porto Lazer, NOS Primavera Sound, Club 447 and Festival dos Canais.

She also stars as a ballerina in “Lovers”, a music video by Pedro Camões and “Retrospectiva de Avanço” by Diogo Dias.

She’s currently cooperating with La Fumisterie, a French/Belgian company and with Cecilia Borettaz, a plastic artist (IT/BE).
